Simeon Stafford is widely regarded as one of the country's leading living artists. Born in a small town on the Pennine borders in 1956 his early paintings were similar to the gritty landscapes of other northern artists. At the age of 14, Stafford met L.S Lowry who encouraged him to paint.
In 1996 Simeon moved to Cornwall and met the artists Terry Frost & Patrick Heron. Their influence, and the magnetism of West Penwith, saw his northern roots became fused with the influence of colour & light to create an expressionism that is powerful and alluring. Many of his paintings feature characters from his family, including Auntie Dot and Trixie, the family Jack Russell, who lived until she was 28.
Simeon exhibited at the Royal Academy in 2001 and in 2003 became a member of The Birmingham Society of Artists. His work is in numerous private collections, including those of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
