Sculptor Richard Holliday works with Cornish greenstone, Ancaster limestone, Portland stone, English alabaster and marble, creating stylised works inspired by birds, fish, standing stones and other natural subjects. Drawing on his long experience as a stonemason, he makes subtly abstracted pieces that demonstrate his considerable understanding of form and technical skill. His gallery collections include small scale pieces and larger outdoor works.
Richard Holliday completed an apprenticeship in stonemasonry in the 1980s and began his career working on architectural projects, specifically structural and ornamental stonemasonry at Westminster Abbey, Kings College Chapel and Ely Cathedral, later moving on to large scale public artworks commissions. Now based in West Cornwall he works full time as a studio sculptor, creating distinctive figurative, semi figurative and abstract works.
