On show in our Upper Gallery this summer, this Solo Exhibition by 'plein air' painter Stewart Edmondson includes spectacular watercolour and mixed media works inspired by Cornwall's dramatically beautiful North Coast, alongside a series of large-scale wave paintings and works that respond to the tranquil woodland and waters arounds the upper Dart estuary in Devon.
Often camping with his painting kit out in the woods, or setting his canvas out on moors and clifftops in all kinds of weather, Stewart creates entire works in situ, letting shifting light patterns and natural forms inspire his use of colour and texture, whilst allowing the physical effects of sun, rain and wind affect the surface details of his paintings.
