Sarah Seddon makes metal plate etchings using zinc plates and traditional processes and techniques. Working from her own sketches and photographs, she specialises in aquatint, which allows for detailed tone and gradient in the printed image. Each plate goes through numerous processes, beginning with a line drawing that is scratched into the wax 'ground' that coats the plate, before acid is used to etch the exposed metal. The cleaned plate is then inked, polished and pressed against dampened paper, and the process may be repeated numerous times to build the final image.
Sarah Seddon was born in Singapore. She graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from University College Falmouth. Her work has been exhibited across the South West, notably as part of the Out of Context Group Exhibition, Trelissick, the John Howard Print Studio at The Poly, Falmouth, and at the Open Print exhibition at Hestletine Gallery, Truro. She lives and works in Cornwall.
