Peter's new collection is inspired by his creative engagement with Cornwall's North Coast, but does not aim to describe specific places. Instead, his paintings seek to suggest a sense of place by capturing the essential qualities of the Cornish landscape. Combining direct observation with visual memory and elements such as shifting tides, changing light, and the textures of land and sky, he makes works that elevate our understanding of the sensory experience of 'place'.
Peter Turnbull studied at Nottingham College of Art and The Royal College of Art in London. He has lectured at numerous academic institutions and museums and served as Head of Fine Art at the University of Chester, becoming Visiting Professor of Fine Art on his retirement. He exhibits in the UK, Europe and USA, and his paintings are held in both private and public collections.
