Max Leuchars

Rising young painter Max Leuchars' visceral relationship with paint defines his practice. Exploring the inherent energy of impasto techniques, he creates landscapes, portraits and interior scenes by applying thick layers of oil paint with a palette knife, and then scratching lines and marks into the surface in the sgraffito style to imply movement, scraping back layers of paint and reworking his surfaces to give a two-dimensional feel to the image.

Max travels widely for inspiration, creating large scale paintings of locations from Cornwall to Tuscany. He attended Bryanston School, whose alumni include Lucian Freud, Sir Howard Hodgkin and Sir Terence Conran, where his art classes introduced him to the artists and methods that inspire his work today. His paintings have been exhibited at London's Decorative Fair, Olympia Art, LAPADA, the Bruton Art Fair, and the 'A Way To Break Through' show.
