Overview
Stewart Edmondson is a contemporary landscape artist based in Dartmoor National Park. Working 'en plein air' throughout the seasons and in all weathers, he draws inspiration from the light and energy of his dramatic rural surroundings, allowing the effect of rain and wind to contribute to the surface details of his works. His large-scale, mixed media and watercolour paintings of woods and moorland feature in fine art collections around the world.
Stewart's first career was as a Landscape Architect, a role which combined his passion for art with his interests in biology and geography. Now a self-taught artist, he paints with an instinctive freedom that many trained artists aspire to, and his passion for nature has motivated his way of working outdoors. Often camping with his painting kit in the woods and on the moors, or setting out his canvas on clifftops and beaches in all kinds of weather, Stewart begins each work in situ, letting the constantly shifting light inspire his use of colour and texture.
