Overview

Kim Bentley’s practice is inspired by daily beach walks with her Airedale Terrier. Her background as a textile designer informs her use of colour and composition, adding an almost illustrative feel to the stories embodied in her embroidered silk paintings, which capture communities enjoying Cornwall's unspoilt beaches. From children building sandcastles, to picnickers, surfers, kite fliers and other dog walkers, her artworks detail the charm and eccentricities of people going about their everyday lives.

Kim Bentley studied Fine Art and Textiles at London’s Goldsmiths College, where her final Degree show included beautifully embroidered beach scenes. She went on to co-found the textile partnership Bentley & Spens, supplying outlets such as Liberty’s in London, Paris and Tokyo, and Paul Smith in London and New York. Her textile designs are archived at the Victoria & Albert Museum. She now lives and works in Cornwall.
