Overview

An affinity with the ocean inspires goldsmith and sculptor CJ Crooks. He began his career photographing sharks in the Bahamas, creating images aimed at provoking dialogue around nature and the environment. As an artist he makes work inspired by patterns found in the natural world. His beautiful Water Series is cast in bronze and mounted on marble, but has the liquid feel of its subject, with the same light reflecting qualities and sense of movement.

CJ Crooks began his career photographing sharks at the world famous 'Shark Lab' in the Bahamas, creating images aimed at provoking dialogue around nature and the environment. Now a goldsmith and sculptor, he is co-founder of ethical jewellery brand Pascale James, and makes work inspired by patterns found in the natural world. CJ's foray into sculpture began with miniature 'objets d'art' to sit alongside his jewellery, but a diagnosis of macular dystrophy, a degenerative eye disease that leads to the early loss of central vision, prompted him to explore work on a larger scale in the hope that scale through sculpture will enable him to continue his love of creating artworks.
