Throughout June our Featured Artist series continues with an exhibition of twenty new paintings by Suki Wapshott.
Suki graduated from Oxford University with a BA in English and used the inspiration gained from her studies of Anglo Saxon and Medieval Poetry to become a painter of poetic landscapes, seascapes and abstract works. She lives and works in Polzeath, where Hayle Bay and the surrounding coastline are the creative focus of her work.
Suki describes this new collection of paintings as 'reflective', created through the extraordinary quietude of lockdown, and inspired by 'scapes' throughout the seasons. With a particular focus on the ocean, the spectacular Padstow estuary, and other inspirational landscapes that have caught her attention over the last year, these paintings are defined by emphatic horizon lines, ever changing skies and a palette of dramatic, powerfully uplifting colours that elevate each scene beyond the literal to a place of deeply held emotion.
